Just Another Day on the Job....or Not (Anyone)

Jenna hated being assigned to the fast track area of the hospital.She was a trauma specialist for God's sake, not a family physician. Looking down at the file she sighed, such simple symptoms, sore throat, stomach pains, fever, nausea, really basic stuff; but it wasn't about to be so basic when she saw who was in the room.

Rai pushed the stroller in and went to Jenna. "Hey."

"Hey," Jenna said.

"I'm concerned about Micheal. His fever won't go down and he's wheezing." Rai said as she picked up the baby and signed in. She rubbed his back because he was fussing.

Jenna nodded.

"How high was his fever the last time you checked?" Jenna asked.

"101.5" Rai said as she rubbed his back. "I know sweetie I know."

"That could be dangerous for a child his age," Jenna said.

"I know which when it got that high I brought him in." Rai said softly.

"I'll see what I can do," Jenna said.

Rai nodded her head and tried to soothe him.

Jenna paged the pediatric specialist.

Rai rubbed his back and rocked him a little. "Shhh Micheal it's going to be okay."

"I'd be more help to you if I specialized in children, but I don't," Jenna said.

"It's fine Jenna." Rai said with a smile.

Jenna nodded.

Rai looked around.

Jenna waited

"How have things been?"

"Good," Jenna said, looking down as her pager went off and she went over to the phone in the room. After talking for a few seconds, she hung up and looked at Rai with wide eyes. "I gotta go, it's Chris and it sounds really bad."

"Go ahead."


Adam and Nitro leaned against the wall waiting on the doctor.

Jenna rushed up to the pair.

"Where is he?" Jenna asked.

"In there." Adam said as he looked at her. He put a hand on her shoulder. "Calm down."

Jenna took a deep breath and walked into the room

"Hey Chris," Jenna said softly.

Chris looked at her and tried to smile. "Hey."

"How long did you wait before they drug you in this time," Jenna asked, on hand on her hip.
