Wondering What If

"With cherries, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream on top?"

"Of course, whatever you want." John said with a grin.

"You said that last time before I picked out the make up." Kayla said as she eyed John, unimpressed.

"Well this time your dad and I will pinky promise that you get ice cream for dessert and that's the ultimate promise Kayla. You can't take it back."

"Be sure to mention that then. Don't over complicate it too much, I may not be super close to John but I can tell he's a nice guy and I'm sure he'll understand what you're saying." Courtney said.

"Yes we pinky promise that you can have whatever you want on your sundae. I'm sure your mom and Elle would enjoy it too. So you have yourself a deal." Randy said. "Is that okay with you? Can we head down now?"

"Yeah you're right..." Elle sighed. "He really is a nice and sweet guy. I definitely lucked out finding him."

"After you both do the pinky promise properly." Kayla said as she brought her hand up and held her pinky out.

John chuckled before he wrapped his pinky around the little girl's.

"I pinky promise you can have your sundae with everything you want on top."

"Mhm." Courtney said before smiling. "And I'm really happy for you, you deserve to have a great guy after everything you've been through."

"Yes, exactly what John said." Randy nodded, wrapping his pinky around his daughter's smaller one after John did. "We promise. So now are we all good to go?"

"Thanks Courtney, that means a lot for me to hear." Elle said with a wide smile on her face. "I guess everything happens for a reason, right? You and Randy seemed to have worked out and I have John."

"Yes, I'm hungry." Kayla said before she walked out of the room.

John chuckled as he followed the little girl.

"Considering who your father is, I'm not surprised."

Courtney nodded her head.

Yeah, I wish everything could have came together under better circumstances but I really am happy with Randy." Courtney said. "And I know our relationship will only get better as time goes on."

"Ha ha, John." Randy dryly said, following Kayla out of her bedroom and down the stairs.

"I'm really glad to hear that though. I mean, yeah the circumstances aren't the greatest. But Randy seems actually...happy and that's all that matters." Elle said.

"Uncle John's funny." Kayla said with a giggle.

"Thank you Kayla." John said, satisfaction written all over his face as he smirked at Randy.

"I agree. You don't know how much it means to me and I'm sure to Randy that you've come to terms with everything that's happened. It helps with the whole moving on process." Courtney said.

"He's not that funny." Randy muttered, shaking his head at the two of them.

Elle nodded her head in completely agreement to what Courtney was saying. "Exactly, it's not healthy to be that angry or bitter. I know he didn't mean to hurt me and I certainly know you didn't either. What's done is done and I'm glad we can all be adults and friends out of it."

"Daddy don't be so mean." Kayla said with a pout.

"Yeah, don't be so mean." John repeated as he fought the urge to burst into laughter.

Courtney nodded with a smile before she leaned over and gave Elle a hug.

"Me too."

Randy shot John a glare before putting a smile on his face and nodding at Kayla. He then subtly shook his head and stepped foot into the kitchen, seeing Elle and Courtney. "We aren't interrupting anything, are we?" Randy asked.

"What? No." Elle said. "Lunch is ready, so you guys can eat up."

"Cool, I'm starving." John said before he went to grab a plate from one of the cabinets.

Courtney helped Kayla onto a chair then gave her some mac and cheese, as well as a juice box.

"Mommy?" Kayla asked.

"Yes sweetie?" Courtney asked.

"Can I paint yours and Elle's face with makeup later?"

"I don't mind if Courtney doesn't." Elle said.

"And while Kayla is giving you two makeovers, we'll be getting everything ready to make ice cream sundaes." Randy stated as he took a seat at the table.

"That's fine with me, it'll be tons of fun." Courtney said, smiling at the little girl before putting a plate of mac and cheese down in front of Randy.

"Yay!" Kayla exclaimed before she started eating her meal.

"Elle, you want some mac and cheese?" John asked.

"Sure, thanks Courtney." Elle said, grabbing her plate and holding it out to Courtney.

"So, while we were almost getting made over. What were you two up to?" Randy asked.

John took Elle's plate then walked back over to the stove. Once there was a good portion of mac and cheese on it he put the plate down on the table, in front of his girlfriend.

"Here you go sweetheart." John said.

"Oh, we were just making lunch and having a nice chat." Courtney said with a smile.

"Thanks, babe." Elle said, smiling at John.

"Well, it's nice that you two are getting along so well." Randy smiled, honestly happy to see them become closer and closer.

"You're welcome." John said with a smile before he went back over to the stove to get some food for himself.

"I agree, today's been a pretty good day if I say so myself." Courtney said.
