Wondering What If

"Yeah, I'm just as shocked as you are." Randy said.

"Mhm." Elle said.

"I wonder what made him do it." Courtney said.

"You're just really quite." John said.

"I have no idea. Maybe he actually felt bad." Randy said.

"There's nothing to say." Elle replied.

Courtney nodded.

"Maybe...it was nice of him to do." Courtney said.

John nodded then sighed before he focused back on the road.

"Yeah, it was." Randy said.

Elle continued to look out the window as John drove.

"You think you can at least smile a bit? Cheer up a little?" Courtney asked.

---

John got to Elle's house twenty minutes later then parked the car in the driveway.

"I'm really sorry for upsetting you with the text." John said.

"I'm fine, really, I am." Randy said.

"Mhm, I'll talk to you later John." Elle said, getting out of the car.

"Are you saying that to get me off your back or because you're actually fine?" Courtney asked.

John sighed.

"I don't want you mad at me." John said as he got out of the car.

"A little bit off both." He admitted.

"I'm fine, John." Elle said.

"I'm here for you Randy, if we're actually going to be in a relationship you should be able to share your feelings with me." Courtney said.

"You keep saying that but by the tone of your voice I can tell you're not and you're just saying that to get me to drop the subject." John said.

"I'll be fine Courtney, really. You don't need to be sucked into what's going on in my head." Randy said.

"Well, you got all of that right. So drop it." Elle said.

"Randy I'm not going to stop asking about it until you tell me." Courtney said.

She was pushing it to be irritating but she just wanted to help Randy, she really cared about him.

"I don't see why you're being so stubborn." John said.

"Courtney, drop it. There's nothing to talk about." Randy said.

"And I have no idea why you decided to be such an asshole to Randy earlier." Elle said.

Courtney sighed.

"Fine." Courtney said before she took a sip of wine.

"I apologized for it." John said.

Randy nodded, taking a long sip from his beer.

"And that's great." Elle said, reaching the door to her place. "Is that it?"

Courtney finished what was left on her plate then pushed it away.

"Geez try to do what I felt was right and this is what I get. I get it maybe wasn't the best thing to do but I had good intentions. You obviously don't get it though so whatever." John said a bit annoyed before he walked back to his car.

Randy grabbed Courtney's plate and his as well, before he stood up and walked into the kitchen.

Elle rolled her eyes and turned around and walked into her house. She closed the door behind her and sighed, thinking about what John had said to her. She knew his intentions were good and was only doing what he could to protect her, and she really had no real reason to get on him that much over the situation. Maybe it was a defense mechanism? She loved John, but didn't want things to go bad since they had been so good since they got together.

Courtney got up then walked into the house. She didn't bother to say anything knowing she wouldn't get very far in the conversation so she just went upstairs. After the stressful afternoon she just wanted a long hot bath.

John sighed as he got into his car. He didn't mean to snap but he was frustrated. After starting his car he began to drive back to the hotel. He figured he'd let Elle cool off then call her tomorrow.

Randy stayed outside for a little while longer. He let out a sigh as he leaned back in his seat. It's been a rough few months, he didn't mean to take it out on anyone.

Elle walked upstairs and into her room. It has been an exhausting few days with the divorce, this disaster of a party, and work. She probably just needed to relax.

When she was done with her bath Courtney got dressed in grey shorts and a white tank top. She walked down the stairs then entered the kitchen and went to the freezer. Courtney grabbed a tub of ice cream then a spoon before she went into the living room.

John was thinking as he drove back to his hotel and couldn't help but feel even more guilty for how he acted. He decided to then drive to Randy's place and apologize in person. He felt like no one was going to step forward and try to settle anything with anyone so he decided to be the one to try. When he got to Randy's house he knocked on the door. He muttered to Courtney he needed to see Randy then walked past her and went outside. John saw Randy sitting in a chair and sat down next to him.

"Hey." John said.

Randy had gotten lost in his own thoughts. He looked up when he saw John. "Oh..hey..."

"Sorry for the text." John said.

"It's cool,, I understand why you did it and I deserved it." Randy said.

"No you didn't. I was shoving it back in your face and that isn't something you deserved. I was just trying to protect Elle and stand up for her but I went about it the wrong way so I'm sorry." John said.

"Key part of that was that you were trying to protect and stand up for Elle. Something I failed and did a shitty job at doing. I can't get mad at you, you had a good intentions with and you were right." Randy said.
