John's Birthday

Cassie had been told by Elle to leave the kid's with John's parents and she went with them the other day when with Elle from Atlanta to drop them off in Massachusetts. Elle had to go to Vegas that day for a performance and wouldn't be home till the next day. Cassie didn't even bother to remind Elle of what today was, cause if Elle didn't remember herself, than that was her fault. It was John's birthday and she was glad she was able to spend the day with John, since he was supposed to be coming home the day.

Cassie sat at the counter of the kitchen and was going through her laptop, roaming the internet while she waited for him to come home. This day would be perfect, she was going to make sure it was and that John would end up as hers, realizing how selfish Elle was.

John walked up the house after grabbing his bag from the trunk. He never usually made a big deal about his birthday, that was Elle's job. To him it was just another day but he always loved and appreciated when Elle made it special for him. A smile was on his face when he entered the house then looked around for his wife.

"Elle?" John asked.

Cassie got out of her seat and walked to where he was. "John? Oh wow..you're home." She smiled, hugging him. "I'm so glad you're back."

John looked at Cassie and smiled before he hugged her back.

"Uh hey." John said.

He looked around again and noticed the house was the same. No decorations, balloons, no cake. It was almost like it actually was just another day and not his birthday. This wasn't something he was used to.

"Happy Birthday!" She chuckled. "Should've been the first thing I said, but I was so happy to see you."

John smiled at Cassie.

"Thanks, I appreciate it...can I see your phone?" John asked.

"Yeah." Cassie said, handing him her phone.

John went onto OSW Connected and saw the birthday messages. He rolled his eyes at Bree then noticed Elle didn't leave one which he found strange and it also hurt him.

"Thanks." John muttered as he handed Cassie the phone back.

"What's the matter John? It's your big day." Cassie said, noticing how John looked.

"I guess I just figured Elle would have done something or would have at least wished me a happy birthday." John said.

"Oh..she didn't tell you." Cassie said. "She's in Vega, she has a performance tonight."

"I haven't had my phone for the past two weeks so no...I didn't know." John said with some disappointment.

"I'm so sorry John. I thought you knew, she left early this morning...didn't say a word about you coming back home." Cassie said.

"It's okay...not your fault. My birthday isn't that important anyway." John said with a slight shrug, trying to act like he wasn't hurt by it.

"I refuse to hear that John. Today is an important day." Cassie said. "We're going to celebrate."

"You don't have to do anything for me." John said, trying to be modest.

"Too bad, I am going to." Cassie said, going over to get her purse. "At least let me take you out to dinner and get you a cake. Then maybe we can just chill at the house after?"

John nodded, liking the idea.

"Yeah, that sounds great to me." John said with a smile.

"Great." Cassie smiled. "I promise you that you'll enjoy the rest of today."

"I trust you, let me just put up stuff upstairs." John said as he grabbed his suitcase and bag.

"Okay, I'll be waiting by the car." Cassie said, walking out of the house.

John nodded then walked upstairs and left the suitcase and bag by the bed to unpack later. He walked downstairs then out the door to the car.

"Ready birthday boy?" Cassie asked.

"Yep, all ready." John said as he unlocked his car then opened the passenger door for Cassie.

"Thanks." Cassie smiled as she got into the car and put her seatbelt on.
